The results can be exported as an image, or copied to the clipboard.Queen Anne Queen Anne is a town in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Hants County. Located on the shores of the Bay of Fundy, the town is best known for its white sandy beaches, and for being the birthplace of Canada's first prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. History The town of Queen Anne was originally known as Miller's Corners, after the grist mill that stood on the site. The former mill was destroyed in the 1838 Lighthouse explosion that saw the loss of both the revenue cutter HMCS Fury, and the ship carrying supplies and a group of New Brunswicker prison escapees, the brig Alderney. In 1883, after several years of debating, a vote was held on the issue of whether or not to change the name to "Queen Anne." Queen Anne's words to her kingdom: "I do not change my ministers, but I change my servants." were heard throughout the town. After the yes vote won, the postal service was changed to include the name "Queen Anne." In 1903, the town's first post office was built. Today the post office and the town hall can be found in the same building. By the 1940s, the population was around 300. In 1941, a Canadian Coast Guard building was constructed, replacing the old frame one which had been in use for over twenty years. In 1946, the township's fire station was built. Queen Anne's first general store was constructed in 1950. In 1961, a new high school was built, and the town became a separate community from Coxheath. In 1962, the first of five military police barracks was built. The town's recreation facilities expanded as the population increased. In the 1970s, the town's population grew steadily, eventually reaching 1,000. In 1973, the RCMP building was built to replace the earlier one. In the early 1980s, a number of factors led to the decline in the population. One such factor was the closure of the lighthouse which allowed fishing to once again be allowed in the bay. The Canadian Coast Guard buildings were also no longer needed, and were sold to the local b78a707d53
